Enter the brutal, man-to-man struggle of the Second World War with Combat! Eastern Front. Published by Compass Games, this standalone volume brings the acclaimed solitaire system to the grueling landscapes of the Soviet Union, from the ruins of Stalingrad to the endless steppes.
Not One Step Back:
The year is 1942. The air is thick with the scent of cordite and frozen earth.
Experience the visceral reality of squad-level tactics in Combat! Eastern Front. As a commander on the most lethal front in history, every decision could be your squad’s last. This isn't a game of sweeping arrows on a map; it’s a gritty, granular simulation where you manage individual soldiers, their morale, and their equipment. Face off against a sophisticated "Opposing Force" (OPFOR) AI that reacts dynamically to your maneuvers. With new rules for city fighting, demolition charges, and light mortars, you’ll feel the weight of the Eastern Front’s unique challenges. Will your men hold their ground, or will the psychological toll of the "Rat War" break them?
From the Publisher: Compass Games
"At Compass Games, we are proud to continue the evolution of the Combat! series with Volume 4: Eastern Front. Designed by Mathew Hinkle and based on Ross Mortell’s pioneering system, this entry serves as a new epoch for the franchise.
We have introduced a streamlined Series Rulebook that clarifies the core mechanics while adding the depth players expect from the Eastern Front—including Soviet and German Orders of Battle, weather effects, and an updated artillery process. Our goal was to provide an 'infinite war' experience, which is why we’ve included a comprehensive random scenario generator and a 10-battle campaign mode. Whether you are clearing a factory in a multi-story urban brawl or defending a forest line against partisans, the system ensures no two missions ever play the same."
Boardgamegeneral Advice:
"Respect the AI and Check Your Six"
Combat! is frequently compared to the classic Ambush!, but with a modern, lethal edge. The Advice: Do not treat the AI like a static puzzle. The "Event Cards" and AI behavior can turn a routine advance into a desperate fighting retreat in a single turn. Focus on Confidence: The new Confidence rules mean casualties don't just reduce your firepower—they break your squad's will. Keep your leaders close to the action to rally wavering troops, but don't expose them; losing a leader in the Eastern Front is often a death sentence for the mission. Also, make use of the new multi-story building rules in urban scenarios. Height advantage is everything in Stalingrad; if you don't clear those upper floors, the AI will rain grenades on you until there’s nothing left to rally.
